ZANU-PF has warned that only invited and accredited delegates will be allowed into the main arena of its 23rd National People’s Conference, with strict security measures being put in place to maintain order.

The party’s Secretary for Commissariat, Cde Munyaradzi Machacha, said recently that uninvited and unaccredited individuals would be turned away from the venue at Chinhoyi University of Technology (CUT).

He made the remarks on the sidelines of a tour of the conference’s main venue by the party’s national and provincial leadership ahead of the conference, which is expected to attract more than 7 500 delegates.

The people include party officials, affiliates, representatives of revolutionary parties from Africa and other continents, as well as diplomats.

“We are not going to allow those who are not accredited or invited to enter the main arena,” Cde Machacha said.

“There will be strict monitoring and vetting at entrance points, and let me hasten to say that this is also part of measures to weed out unaccredited people while at the same time improving security.

“To those who were not invited and are unaccredited, they should not waste their time and money as they will not be allowed.”

Cde Machacha expressed satisfaction with the state of preparedness, saying infrastructure development and organisational arrangements were ready for the event.

He said the organising committees had done a good job to prepare for the conference, with road maintenance and upgrades having been completed and now facilitating the smooth movement of delegates.

The conference is being held under the theme, “From Resolutions to Results: Consolidating Economic Development and Deepening Empowerment Towards Vision 2030”.

Deliberations are also expected to focus on translating party resolutions into tangible economic gains as Zimbabwe pursues its ambition of attaining upper-middle-income economy status by 2030.

Meanwhile, Zanu PF Mashonaland West provincial chairman, Senator Mary Mliswa-Chikoka, urged party members and other participants to maintain discipline throughout the conference.

She warned against unruly conduct, saying all those attending the event should uphold the party’s values and preserve its dignity.

“We must maintain the discipline and dignity which we are taught in our party. We cannot afford to have elements engaging in unruly behaviour,” she said.

Mashonaland West Provincial Affairs and Devolution Minister, Cde Marian Chombo, said the conference was already generating significant business for Chinhoyi and surrounding areas, with accommodation facilities fully booked.

“All the accommodation facilities are fully booked, and this shows that business in the province, particularly Chinhoyi and surrounding areas, has benefited,” she said.

Cde Chombo also highlighted the upgrading of key feeder roads in Chinhoyi and the development of legacy projects expected to contribute to the province’s long-term development.

Some of the projects are expected to be commissioned by President Mnangagwa during the conference.

Some of the developmental legacy projects include the Chinhoyi Provincial Hospital oxygen plant, water reticulation works, road upgrades and new housing developments.
