Misfortune continues to stalk Tynwald High School which lost nearly US$6 000 to five armed robbers on Tuesday, the robbery comes after a school bus accident left six students dead and several others injured on trip to Nyanga almost two weeks ago.
Apart from losing the cash, the Harare school also lost a laptop, a cellphone and a wallet after the robbers attacked two guards on duty.
National police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi said: “Police in Harare are investigating a case of robbery which occurred on October 25, 2022 at Tynwald High School, Harare.
“Five unknown suspects attacked two security guards who were on duty at the school before stealing a cellphone, wallet, US$5 800 cash and an HP laptop, all valued at US$ 6 015.”
The school has since beefed up its security.
School officials said the matter was being handled by the police.
The incident comes after a Harare company based in the Ardbennie area also lost over US$12 900 cash to six armed robbers who attacked a security guard at the premise early Tuesday morning.
The robbers were armed with a pistol and knives when the incident occurred at around 2am.
The robbers broke into the company offices, where they forced open a safe before stealing US$12 908.
Meanwhile, police on Wednesday recovered a Toyota Corolla Sedan vehicle (AEW 2849), at the Bulawayo-Victoria Falls tollgate which had been reportedly stolen on August 12 at a house along First Drive in Glen View 3, Harare after the complainant had left it idling with the keys in the ignition.
In another case, police in Masvingo recovered a Toyota Mark X vehicle registration number (AFT 8826) along Mushagashe-Chirumanzu Road which is about 1km away from Harare-Masvingo Road. Police are also investigating two cases of theft of motor vehicles which occurred in separate incidents in Dema and Masvingo, where motorists parked their cars and left the keys in the ignition of their unattended cars.
In another case, police in Bulawayo acted on a tip off and arrested Zenzele Ndebele (44) and Helfer Nkomo (35) for possession of cars suspected to be stolen.
In Mwenezi, police also recovered an Isuzu KB single cab reported to have been stolen through a robbery on October 15 in Bulawayo.
The car was found abandoned in a bush area at Village 1, Mariot, Mwenezi, with keys in the ignition.
