TelOne appoint Saul Chaminuka as new head coach to save their season

GWERU – TelOne have turned to veteran coach Saul Chaminuka to arrest a troubled start to their Castle Lager Premier Soccer League season, the club confirmed on Wednesday.

Chaminuka replaces Herbert Maruwa, who left the Wifi Boys last week following a string of poor results that has left the Gweru-based side rooted to 16th place in the 18-team standings, with six points from ten matches.

Club president Oscah Nduwure expressed confidence that Chaminuka’s experience would bring the stability needed to lift TelOne clear of the early relegation zone.

The new coach inherits a squad that showed some fight last week, coming from behind to beat Triangle 2-1 at Gibbo Stadium for their first win of the season – a result that at least provides a foundation to build on.

Chaminuka is a familiar figure in Zimbabwean football, having previously managed Buffaloes, Black Rhinos, ZPC Kariba, Green Fuel, Kwekwe United and Dynamos.

He faces an immediate test this Saturday when TelOne host in-form Hardrock in a Midlands derby at Ascot Stadium.
