By-elections will be held in four rural wards on 20 June, the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) has announced.
The polls cover Ward 9 of Chiredzi Rural District Council and Wards 1, 10 and 21 of Tsholotsho Rural District Council, according to an election notice issued by ZEC Chief Elections Officer Simbarashe Tongayi.
ZEC said the Chiredzi seat fell vacant following the death of the incumbent councillor. The three Tsholotsho seats became vacant “by operation of law after a Tribunal found the incumbents guilty”.
Nomination courts will sit on Wednesday, 20 May, from 10 AM to 4 PM to receive candidate papers. The Chiredzi nominations will be held at the Rural District Council boardroom, 69 Inyathi Road. Tsholotsho nominations will be at the RDC boardroom in Tsholotsho.
Polling will take place on Saturday, 20 June, if contests are necessary under section 125(4)(b) of the Electoral Act.
The notice was published in line with section 121A (2) of the Electoral Act [Chapter 2:13] after ZEC received formal notification of the vacancies.
