ZESA technician plunges several meters down after pole snaps

BULAWAYO – A ZESA employee was seriously injured on Thursday after a pole fell as he worked on overhead copper cables in Entumbane suburb in Bulawayo.

Witnesses said the unidentified man, thought to be in his 30s, was harnessed to the pole and was removing some cables when the pole suddenly snapped, sending him plunging several meters to the ground.

“He was in serious pain with broken bones on the legs,” one resident said.

The technician was rushed to a local hospital where his condition could not be ascertained.

A ZESA spokesman said: “All accidents involving our employees are meticulously investigated to prevent similar occurrences in in future, because the safety of our workers is our top priority.

“Regrettably, something has happened in this incident and we are urgently looking into it. Our technician is receiving the necessary medical attention and our prayers go out to him and his family.”
