A WOMAN from Borrowdale suburb in Harare has appeared in court after allegedly stabbing a hired driver multiple times in a shocking daylight attack.

Michelle Nhukarume appeared before Harare magistrate Ms Ayanda Dhlamini facing an assault charge.

She was granted bail of US$100.

The complainant, Mr Godwin Mikiri, is a self-employed taxi driver, who operates using the inDrive application.

Prosecutor Ms Tinashe Maphosa told the court that on April 10, 2026, at around 11am, Nhukarume hired Mr Mikiri for  her errands.

The court heard that she directed him to Gumble Close in Borrowdale, where she said she wanted to pick up a person identified only as Herry.

Mr Mikiri reportedly waited for over an hour, but the individual did not come out. During that time, Nhukarume allegedly kept giving excuses to prevent the driver from leaving, promising to top up the fare.

At around midday, Nhukarume received a phone call and stepped out of the vehicle, saying she needed privacy.

While the complainant reclined his seat to rest, she allegedly re-entered the car through the rear passenger door and launched a sudden attack using a kitchen knife.

She allegedly stabbed Mr Mikiri on the chest, prompting a struggle as he tried to defend himself.

In the ensuing scuffle, Nhukarume is said to have repeatedly struck him, leaving him with a chest wound and five injuries on his hands.

The court heard that Mr Mikiri eventually grabbed the knife by its blade and pulled it towards himself, managing to bite Nhukarume on the neck in a desperate attempt to stop the assault.

The knife reportedly fell to the ground during the struggle.

Bleeding profusely, Mr Mikiri shouted for, and three other men who rushed to his aid.

The neighbour then drove the injured complainant to a nearby clinic for treatment before taking Nhukarume to the police station, where a report was filed.
