Teller up for ZW$13 million licence fraud

HARARE – A Harare post office official has been dragged to court accused of swindling his employer of over ZW$12 million in unremitted radio licence fees.

Tatenda Ngara, 29, appeared before Harare magistrate Yeukai Dzuda Wednesday charged with theft of trust property.

He was freed on ZW$50 000 bail.

According to court papers, Ngara was entrusted with collecting revenue from the purchase of vehicle and radio licences by various clients at the Post Office’s Borrowdale branch.

It is alleged that during that period, Ngara abused the trust bestowed upon him when he collected a total of ZW$12 984 053 from various clients and instead of remitting the money, he converted it into his personal use.

The offence was discovered when his employer made a reconciliation on a daily sales sheet posted by Ngara from May 2022 to August 2022.

Anesu Chirenje prosecuted.
